June month marks the opening of the Milwaukie Historical Society’s newest exhibit, Made in Milwaukie: Our Local Industries and National Icons. The exhibit highlights some of the most impactful businesses that have called Milwaukie home. For those interested in learning more about life and industry in 19th century Milwaukie, the exhibit will feature information about the Fischer Pottery and Brickyard (located in the Island Station neighborhood), Standard Mill (located along Milwaukie Bay), and the local boat-making industry created by Lot Whitcomb (located along Milwaukie Bay). It also highlights the city’s culinary history, including the Milwaukie Pastry Kitchen, Dave’s Killer Bread and Mike’s Drive-In. Additionally, the exhibit provides history about contemporary businesses, such as Dark Horse Comics, Milwaukie Lumber and Cha! Cha! Cha!
